More and more, organisations are taking steps towards the development of internal and external policies that are ecologically and environmentally friendly. The aim is to refine the organisation’s operations to produce the minimum impact on the environment that can be achieved, or even produce positive ecological outcomes. Companies are keen to be seen as neutral in their effect on the planet, if not actively regenerative.
Eco-reputation
In making a commercial agreement with another organisation, a company will consider whether their potential collaborator shares their environmental values. Nobody wanted to buy trainers from a particular well-known sports brand when the public perception was that they were using child labourers in foreign sweatshops. Organisations want to be associated with partners and stakeholders who have a positive public image.
Carbon tax
A tax on business and even individual carbon emissions has already been actively discussed. So let’s imagine that this is in force. Organisations might have to recover the increased costs caused by the tax in the prices of their products, or improve their operations to reduce the impact that the tax would have over their services as far as possible.
