Nations disappeared or were created; political systems changed; generational and international distrust as well as an inherent pessimism took hold of society and many nations faced ruin, while those that were better off had to endure their shattered economies. While some were beneficial, most of the transformations, at least the immediate ones, weren’t so positive.
Social Changes of WWI
After the war many of the class distinctions had were shattered. The military draft instituted by most countries during the conflict and the countless agonies shared by soldiers and civilians served as social equalizers.
However, the draft had its loopholes which had been exploited by many well to do individuals. This reality created a social conscience among veterans that would be expressed in political terms.
